WHAT IS AN ALLERGIST?

An allergist/immunologist is a physician who has specialized training and accreditation to evaluate, diagnose and treat individuals with allergies, asthma and other disorders of the immune system.

EDUCATION

After four years of medical school, an allergist must complete three years of residency training in either internal medicine (adult medicine) or pediatrics. A future allergist then needs to pass their board examinations in internal medicine or pediatrics before undertaking an additional 2-3 years of fellowship training in the specialty of allergy/immunology. An allergist becomes board certified by passing a rigorous examination that covers both immunology and clinical science. A board certified allergist is trained in the evaluation and management of both adult and pediatric patients.

The Doctor

Dr. Mamlok is an independent physician affiliated with Covenant Health System, University Medical Center and Grace Clinic. He completed his fellowship in Allergy and Immunology at the University of Texas Medical Branch and has been in practice for more than 25 years in Denver, Colorado and Lubbock, Texas.

He is married to Viviane Mamlok, M.D., a Belgian born Pediatric Pathologist at the Texas Tech University H.S.C. Together, they have enjoyed a “multi-culti” life of travel, medicine and the joy of raising Michael, a Red Raider Computer Engineer who lives in Pennsylvania. Spare time (of which there is never enough!) is filled with travel and talks on the history of the Chinese Red Cross Medical Relief Corps (a long story), model railroading, aviation and ice hockey.

"The right care can make the difference between suffering with an allergic disease and feeling better. By visiting an allergist, you can expect an accurate diagnosis, a treatment plan that works and educational information to help you manage your disease."
